a borough, fair, and post-town, in the county of Down, and province of Ulster, 69 miles from Dublin. Here is a fine seat of the earl of Hillsborough. The town is pleasantly situated and almost new built, in view of Liffurn, Beltait, and Carrickfergus bay; the church is magnificent, having an elegant spire, as lofty as that of St Patrick's in Dublin, and seven painted windows. Here is an excellent inn, and a thriving manufacture of muslins. It has three fairs, and sends two members to parliament. This place gives title of earl to the family of Hillsborough. N. Lat. 54. 32.
