a term purely Greek, ὁδηγος, signifying guide. The word is chiefly used as the title of a book composed by Anastasius the Sinate, towards the close of the fifth century; being a method of disputing against the heretics, particularly the Acepahli.
Mr Toland has also published a dissertation under the same title. Its subject is the pillar of fire, &c. which went before the Israelites as a guide in the desert.
