(from the Saxon word hustinge, i.e. concilium, or curia), a court held in Guildhall before the lord-mayor and aldermen of London, and reckoned the supreme court of the city. Here deeds may be inrolled, outlawries sued out, and replevins and writs of error determined. In this court also is the election of aldermen, of the four members of parliament for the city, &c. This court is very ancient, as appears by the laws of Edward the Confessor. Some other cities have likewise had a court bearing the same name, as Winchester, York, &c.
