in Ancient Geography, the seat of the Phaeacians near the Cyclops, (Homer): some commentators take it to be Camarina in Sicily; but, according to others, it supposed to be an adjoining island, which they take to be Melita, lying in sight of Sicily. And this seems to be confirmed by Apollonius Rhodius. Whence the Phaeacians afterwards removed to Corcyra, called Scheria, Phaeacia, and Melita; having been expelled by the Phoenicians, who settled in Melita for commerce, and for commodious harbours, before the war of Troy, (Diodorus Siculus).
