in antiquity, a kind of mournful song, used upon occasion of death, or any other affecting accident. Hence the Greek proverb had their original, ἀλείμων εὐχορεῖται, or Ψυχορεῖται, i.e. more sad or colder than a jalemus, ἀς τοις ἐλαφροῖς ὑπερέστεις, worthy to be ranked among jalemuses.
