(derived from Inis Bheal, that is, "the island of Bheal"), one of the ancient names of Ireland, so denominated from Beal, the principal object of adoration among the ancient inhabitants of the British isles. Innisfail has been erroneously translated the island of Destiny, as Bheal was sometimes taken for Fate or Providence.
