county town of Kinrossshire in Scotland, situated in W. Long. 3° 25'. N. Lat. 56° 15' on the west side of Lochleven, a fresh water lake about 10 miles in compass, abounding with pike, trout, perch, and water fowl. The manufactures are linen and some cutlery ware. In the lake are two islands; on one of which appear the ruins of a priory, heretofore professed by the Culdees; the other is famous for the castle in which Queen Mary was imprisoned by her rebellious subjects.
