LACHISH

Volume 11 · 58 words · 1815 Edition

Ancient Geography, a city southward of the tribe of Judah. Eusebius and St Jerome tell us, that in their time there was a village called Lachith, seven miles from Eleutheropolis, southward. Sennacherib besieged Lachish, but did not take it. From thence it was that he sent Rabshakeh against Jerusalem. Here King Amaziah was slain by his rebel subjects.
