(Lageno), in ancient time, was a measure of wine, containing six sextarii: whence probably is derived our flagon. The lieutenant of the Tower has the privilege to take unam lagenum vini ante malum et retro, of all wine ships that come upon the Thames; and Sir Peter Leicester, in his Antiquities of Cheshire, interprets lagena vini, "a bottle of wine."
