a large town of Asia, in Indostan, and capital of a province of the same name, and one of the most considerable in the Mogul's dominions. It is of a vast circumference, and contains a great number of mosques, public baths, caravanseras, and pagods. It was the residence of the Great Mogul; but since the removal of the court, the fine palace is going to decay. There is a magnificent walk of shady trees, which runs from this to Agra, that is upwards of 300 miles. Here they have manufactures of cotton cloths and stuffs of all kinds, and they make very curious carpets. E. Long. 75. 55. N. Lat. 31. 40.
