LAVINGTON East, a town of Wilts, four miles south of the Devizes, and 89 miles from London. It is called in our histories Steptul Lavington; but now Cheapside or Market Lavington, on account of its markets, which are on Monday and Wednesday, the last a great corn market. It is supposed to have been a market town above 200 years. Here is a charity school for 36 children, who have books given them, and the girls are taught to knit and sew.
