or Indian Root, in the Materia Medica. The plant to which this article belongs is unknown. Neither the woody nor cortical part of the root has any remarkable sensible quality. A slight bitterness is perceptible; and it is recommended, like simarouba, in diarrheas even of the colligative kind, in half-dram doses four times a-day. Little of this root has been brought to Europe; but some of those who have had an opportunity of employing it, speak in very high terms of the effects obtained from it.
