a town and port of Liguria, at the mouth of the Macra. The town was but small, but the port large and beautiful, according to Strabo. Now extinct, and its ruins called Luna Distrutta. It was famous for its quarries of white marble, thence called Lunense; and for its cheese, remarkable rather for its size than goodness, each being a thousand weight.
