a town of France, in the department of Allier, and containing about 16,000 inhabitants. The houses of the Chartreux, and that of the Visitation, are magnificent. It has a considerable trade in cutlery ware, and is seated on the river Allier, in a pleasant fertile plain, almost in the middle of France, 30 miles south of Nevers, and 55 north of Clermont.
