in Ancient Geography, one of the twelve towns of Ionia; seated on the Meander, at the distance of 30 stadia from the sea. In Strabo's time it was incorporated with the Milesians, on account of the paucity of inhabitants, from its being formerly overwhelmed with water: for which reason the Ionians configned its suffrage and religious ceremonies to the people of Miletus. Artaxerxes allotted this town to Themistocles, in order to furnish his table with meat: Magneia was to support him in bread, and Lamplacus in wine. The town now lies in ruins.
