An ancient trading town on the Atax, which discharges itself into the sea through the Locus Rubrefus, or Rubrenis. Capital of Gallia Narbonensis; furnished Colonia Julia Paterna, from Julius Caesar, the father of Augustus by adoption. Now called Narbonne, a city of Languedoc.
