a town of Silezia in Germany, and the residence of the bishop of Breslau, who has a magnifi- cent palace here. The air is very wholesome, and provisions are cheap; the inhabitants carry on a great trade in wine and linen. This place suffered greatly by an inundation and fire in 1729. It was taken by the Prussians in 1741, who augmented the fortifications af- ter the peace in 1742, and built a citadel to which they gave the name of Prussia. It is situated on a river of the same name, in E. Long. 17. 35. N. Lat. 50. 32.
