ORPIMENT

Volume 15 · 68 words · 1815 Edition

Orpiment.—This substance is prepared in the same manner, and with the same apparatus, but the arsenic is previously mixed with half its weight of sulphur. In both cases a uniform red heat should be kept up during the operation, so that the materials in the lower vessel may be always in fusion; and when these materials are of any tolerable degree of purity, almost the whole is sublimed.
