Bocchard thinks it denotes the Higher Egypt; the Septuagint translate it the country of Pathrus; in Pliny we have the Nomos Pathurites in the Thebais; in Ptolemy, Pathyris, probably the metropolis. From the Hebrew appellation Patros comes the gentilitial name Pathrusim, (Moses).
