This name is given to the five cities, Sodom, Gomorrah, Adamah, Zoebim, and Zoar (Wisdom x. 6.). They were all five condemned to utter destruction, but Lot interceded for the preservation of Zoar, otherwise called Bala. Sodom, Gomorrah, Adamah, and Zoebim, were all consumed by fire from heaven, and in the place where they stood was made the lake Alphaltites, or the lake of Sodom.
