ACETUM, an agreeable acid, prepared from wine, cyder, beer, and other liquors; of considerable use, both as a medicine and a sauce. The word is French, vinaigre; formed from vin, "wine;" and aigre, " sour." See ACETIC Acid, and CHEMISTRY Index.
