a town of Hertfordshire, with a market on Tuesdays, and a fair on the last Tuesday in April, and Tuesday before St Matthew's day (Sept. 21.) for horses and other cattle. It is a large, well frequented, and well inhabited thoroughfare town, feated on the river Lea, 21 miles north of London.
