a city and sea-port of Ireland, in a county of the same name, with a bishop's see. It is the second place in the kingdom, and is a wealthy, populous city, enjoying many ample privileges. The streets are narrow, and the air is not very healthy; but it has an excellent harbour, feasted as well for trade as any in the world, and ships of the greatest burden may ride at the quay.
