Nova, a very large island lying in the Northern ocean, to the north of Russia, from which it is separated by the strait of Waigate. It has no inhabitants except wild beasts, particularly white foxes and bears. In 1595, a Dutch vessel was cast away on the coast, and the ship's company were obliged to winter here; here; but they did not see the sun from the fourth of November to the beginning of February, and had great difficulty to keep themselves from being frozen to death.
