a town of Denmark, in North Jutland, capital of the diocese of the same name, and a bishop's see. It has this name, which signifies eel-town, on account of the great number of eels taken here. It is seated on a canal, 10 miles from the sea, 30 north of Wiburg, and 50 north of Arhuys. It has an exchange for merchants, and a safe and deep harbour.
