It has several inns, which afford good accommodation for travellers; and has a market on Saturday, well stocked with provisions. It is governed by a bailiff, a steward, a recorder, ten approved men, and twenty-two capital burgesses, who yearly choose the bailiff. Population 3295 in 1811.
