a town of the Netherlands, in the province of Hainault, seated in E. Long. 3° 35' N. Lat. 50° 30'. Near this place the English and their allies under the duke of Marlborough obtained a very bloody victory over the French in 1709. This is most commonly called the battle of Malplaquet. See Malplaquet.
