a province of France, in the Netherlands, about 25 miles in length. It is bounded on the north and east by Hainault, on the south by Picardy, and on the west by Artois. It is a very fertile and populous country; and the inhabitants are industrious, active, and ingenious. The trade consists principally in corn, sheep, very fine wool, and fine linen cloth. Cambrai is the capital town.
