It is seated among the hills called Cartmell-fells, not far from the sea, and near the river Kent; adorned with a very handsome church, built in the form of a cross like a cathedral. The market is well supplied with corn, sheep, and fish. Population 280 in 1811. W. Long. 2° 43'. N. Lat. 54° 15'.
