a county of Ireland, 47 miles in length and 23 in breadth; is bounded on the east by Monaghan, and on the south by Longford, West-Meath, and East-Meath. It has but two towns of any note, viz. Cavan and Kilmore. It contains 33 parishes, and in 1801 was computed to have 18,000 houses and 90,000 inhabitants. The county sends two members to the imperial parliament. It has nine market towns.
