CHIUM VINUM

Volume 6 · 64 words · 1823 Edition

CHIUM WINE, or wine of the growth of the island of Chios, now Scio, is commended by Dioscorides as affording good nourishment, fit to drink, less disposed to intoxicate, endowed with the virtue of restraining defluxions, and a proper ingredient in ophthalmic Chium thalmic medicines. Hence Scribonius Largus directs the dry ingredients in collyria for the eyes to be made up with Chian wine.
