Volume 6 · 66 words · 1823 Edition

in Anatomy, a term applied to a canal or duct, called also ductus communis; formed of the union of the portus biliares and ductus cysticus. The word comes from κάλας, cholos; and ἀγγεῖον, I receive, or contain.

The choledochus ductus, passing obliquely to the lower end of the duodenum, serves to convey the bile from the liver to the intestines. See ANATOMY Index.

CHOLER: See BILE.
