a town in Gloucestershire, with a market on Thursdays. It is remarkable for the church, which has curious painted glass windows. They are said to have been taken in a ship by John Tame, Esq., towards the end of the 17th century, who built the church for their sake. They are preserved entire, and the figures are extremely well drawn and coloured. They represent the most remarkable histories in the Old and New Testament. They are frequently visited by travellers, and many go on purpose to view them, as one of the greatest curiosities in England. The painter was Albert Durer. Population 1442 in 1811. W. Long, i. 46.
