a small town in Selkirkshire in Scotland, situated on the stream called Gala Water, at the place where it joins the Tweed. Galashiels and its neighbourhood have been long famous for the manufacture of coarse woollen cloth, known by the name of Galashiels grey. The improved state of the agriculture of this vicinity is much commended. Galashiels is 30 miles S. E. from Edinburgh, and had 986 inhabitants in 1811.
