in Ancient Geography, a mountain of Ionia, or on the confines of Caria, famous for the fable of Endymion, of whom the Moon was said to be enamoured: hence called Latminus Heros, and Latminus Ve- nator. In the mountain was a cave in which Endymion dwelt (Scholiast on Apollonius Rhodius). Supposed by Hecatæus to be the Phleteron Mons of Homer; but by others to be Græus Mons, not far from Latmus (Strabo).
