a town of North America, and considered as the capital of Kentucky. It stands on the head waters of Elkhorn river. Here the courts are held, and business regularly conducted. In 1818 it contained about 7000 inhabitants, and several stores, with a good assortment of dry goods. There are manufactures of cottons and woollens, flannels, blankets, &c.
