a strong town of France, in the department of Ardennes, with a citadel. It was besieged with a powerful army by Charles V., who was obliged to raise the siege in 1521. It is seated on the river Maese, partly upon a hill, and partly in a valley, in E. Long. 4° 48' N. Lat. 49° 46'.
