Volume 14 · 73 words · 1823 Edition

or MITHRA, a god of Persia and Chaldea, supposed to be the sun. His worship was introduced at Rome. He supports his knee upon a bull that lies on the ground, and one of whose horns he holds in one hand, while with the other he plunges a dagger in his neck.
