NORTH, a town of Devonshire, on the river Moul.

South, on the same stream, 182 miles from London. This, as well as the former, was anciently royal demesne. It sent members to parliament in the reign of Edward I. consists of a mayor, 18 capital burgesses, a recorder, town clerk, and 2 sergeants at mace. Its chief manufactures are serges, shalloons, and felts; and a considerable market for wool.
