Bocchard thinks it denotes the Higher Egypt; the Septuagint translate it the country of Pathares; in Pliny we have the Nomos Patharites in the Thebais; in Ptolemy, Pathyrus, probably the metropolis. From the Hebrew appellation Patros comes the gentilicious name Pathrusim (Moses).
