STOKESIA, a genus of plants belonging to the syngenesia class, and order of polygamia vequalis. The corollas in the ray are disposed in the shape of a funnel, and are long and irregular. The down is four-bristled, and the receptacle is naked. One species only is known, which is a herbaceous plant, and a native of South Carolina.
