ACETUM, an agreeable acid, prepared from wine, cider, beer, and other liquors; of considerable use, both as a medicine and a sauce. The word is French, vinaigre; formed from vin, "wine;" and aigre, "sour." See ACETIC ACID, and CHEMISTRY Index.
