bailiwick in the province of Luneburg, in the kingdom of Hanover, extending over 27 square miles, or 17,280 acres, and containing 3020 inhabitants. A town of the same name, with 525 inhabitants, is the capital of the bailiwick. It is on the banks of the Elbe, and enjoys the benefit of a toll over the river.
