a species of divination performed by throwing small pieces, with marks corresponding to the letters of the alphabet, the accidental disposition of which formed the answer required. This kind of divination was practised in a temple of Hercules in Achaea. The word is derived from ἀστραγάλως, and παρίνα, divination.
