or AETH, a city of the circle of Tournay and province of Hennegau, in the kingdom of the Netherlands. It is situated on the river Dender, is well built and strongly fortified, has a new arsenal, with several bomb-proof magazines, and, exclusive of the garrison, contained in 1817 a population of 8296 inhabitants, who are very industrious, and employed in refining sugar and salt, in making soap, beer, and gin, and in the linen manufactory.
