a market town of the hundred of Hemlingford, in the county of Warwick, 109 miles from London. It has the benefit of the Coventry canal, which passes near the town, and some trade in ribbons, woollen stuffs, and hats. The market is on Tuesday. Population in 1801, 2650; in 1811, 2921; and in 1821, 3434 inhabitants.
