or Attleburgh, a market-town of the hundred of Shropham, in the county of Norfolk, ninety-three miles from London, and six from Norwich. This place is said to have been formerly a large city, the capital of the county, and at one time had a collegiate church. There is a market held every Thursday, and another every alternate Tuesday. The population in 1801 was 1333; in 1811, 1492; and in 1821, 1659.
