a town of Hindostan, in the province of Oude, and chief town of the district of Baraiche. It is finely situated on the river Sy, in long. 81. 36. E. lat. 27. 31. N. The district of Baraiche extends along the north side of the river Goggia, and is separated from the territories of Nepaul by a lofty range of mountains. A portion of this district was ceded to the English in 1800, but the greater part belongs to the nabob of Oude.
