a circle in the Prussian government of Minden and province of Westphalia. It extends over 134 square miles, or 85,760 acres, and contains five cities, thirty villages, and fifteen hamlets, and a population of 21,201 persons. It is well cultivated and fertile. The dense population finds employment in making the coarse linen well known by the name of paderborns. The chief town has the same name as the circle, is situated on the river Brucht, and contains 380 houses, with 2550 inhabitants.
