a market-town of the hundred of the same name, in the county of Somerset, a hundred and nine miles from London, on the river Brue. It is a well-built town, at which the quarter-sessions for the county are held. Some silk mills have been established here, and some trade is carried on in stockings and woollen goods. The market is held on Saturday. The inhabitants amounted in 1801 to 1631, in 1811 to 1536, and in 1821 to 1858.
